About this calculator
How do you calculate weekly labour cost?
Weekly labour cost is the number of staff multiplied by their hourly rate, the hours in each shift and the number of shifts each works per week. An optional on-costs uplift adds an allowance for holiday pay and employer National Insurance. The annual figure is the weekly cost times 52.
What is the on-costs uplift?
A rough allowance for the extra employment costs on top of gross pay: holiday pay accrued at 12.07 percent, employer National Insurance and pension. A common ballpark is 15 to 25 percent, but your real figure depends on your rates and thresholds. Set it to zero to see gross pay only.
Is this an exact quote?
No. It is a fast estimate to sense-check a rota, not a payroll calculation. It does not model overtime premiums, different rates per person, salaried staff or statutory thresholds. For exact cost as you build the rota, the planner shows live labour cost per draft.
